Generant Flow Calculator – A Reliable Tool for Sizing Relief Valve Flow Capacity
Pressure relief valves must be properly sized to protect systems from over pressurization. Generant’s Flow Calculator helps you determine the what relief valve options are most suitable for the application at hand. On the road, in the field or at the office, Generant’s flow calculator is always at your fingertips.
Why It Matters
To properly size a relief valve for an overpressure condition you must consider how much flow capacity is required in the event of a worst-case scenario at max working pressure. This requires an in depth understanding of all potential sources and potential input flow capacity. Once you’ve determined your system requirements, our calculator can be used to match the right Generant relief device. How It Works
Input the following details:
- Valve orifice diameter*
- Discharge coefficient (Kd)*
- Upstream pressure (typically 110% of the valve’s nominal set pressure)
- Downstream pressure (often 0 PSIG if venting to atmosphere)
- Process temperature
- Working media
*Orifice sizes and discharge coefficients can be found on Generant relief valve product literatures or on the reference tables within the calculator page
Reference Tables
Find standard orifice sizes and Kd values below.
- Choose an orifice diameter based on the desired valve size (different per Generant valve series)
- Select a Kd value that matches your intended set pressure and valve series
